Construction of the Macao East Asian Games Dome Started
The Chief Executive, Edmund Ho today (28 Feb) lays the first stone for the Macao East Asian Games Dome, which will be the main venue of the Game to be hold in 2005.

Located in the Cotai City, the Macao East Asian Games Dome covers a total land area of 45 thousand square meters, will have a construction area of 70 thousand square meters.
The Dome, which will accommodate three venues, was expected to cost 640 million patacas and take 660 days to build.
The Secretary for Transport and Public Works, Ao Man Long who has attended the ceremony, responding to media’s questions concerning the criteria in granting contracts for public projects, saying that public tenders were opened for projects of larger scale and the relative tender committee would choose the most appropriate contractor for the project. In the mean time, he said, for works of smaller scale, other mode of contracting would be adapted.
He said that local construction workers and technicians might acquire new professional experience working with non-local contractors in building major infrastructures such as the Macao East Asian Games Dome, of which the contractor was a joint venture formed by a local construction company with a non-local partner.
He also said that the Government would consider the possibility of contracting project partially in the future, so as to increase local contractors’ participation.
